In the early 1970s, Bobby Hinds was successfully selling life insurance in Madison, Wisconsin, but was becoming a health risk himself through heavy smoking and weight gain. The former University of Wisconsin boxing champ resumed exercise, including jumping rope. Encouraged by his fitness progress and fueled by a desire to be his own boss, he began making jump ropes from home. Consumer demand flourished, and Lifeline USA was on its way.
